A Young Person Sustains Work

Learner 'A' was in his eary 20's and had not sustained a permanent job since leaving school at 16. He had very low confidence and a number of other barriers to getting a job. Although he had managed to get a number of interviews, he had not been successful.

Jobcentre Plus referred him to Adult Learning. He was hesitant about taking part in an employability course, but decided to give it a go. The course was an innovative project, 'Changing Scenes', designed to improve employability and was supported by Jobcentre Plus and Skills Development Scotland.

'A' was supported to identify and apply for jobs that suited his skills. After intense support he gained a job that he has now sustained for 2 years. He recently accessed an Adult Learning course through his workplace and this has further improved his skills. As a result of improved confidence and core skills he went on to pass his driving test. His aspirations have been raised and increased income has enabled him to develop his interests and wider social networks.
