Absolute Beginners Weaving

Ref: 1143

Come along for an easy workshop, learning some of the basics of weave.

This course is a taster for anyone who thinks they may be interested in making their own cloth. It is a stand-alone session and therefore suitable for absolute beginners and those with only a little experience. We will be in the studio in Yell where there is plenty of inspiration and lots to see. You are welcome to stay after the workshop to read books or look at the textiles collection, and participants are very welcome to stay in touch to ask advice after the course.

On the first day you will learn to make a warp and put it onto the loom. This part of the course will introduce you to the basics of designing a weave project and making the warp which will be used to create your cloth.

On the second day you will finish warping up and begin to weave. You will be free to choose colours from the yarn store and try your hand at different patterns. If you would like to bring some inspiration material (photograph, picture, etc) please do so. We will work with you to create a colour palette for your weaving.

There are only five places on this session so please book early. You will be using table looms and will have a short length of narrow cloth of your own to wash at home and use in a project.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Please bring lunch with you. A microwave, kettle and hotplate with saucepans is available to use.

There is an additional charge of £5 for materials, payable to the tutor.
