Learning Partnerships

Recently we have been involved in supporting the development of two learning partnerships in the South of Shetland and in the North Isles.

Learning partnerships aim to

  • widen participation in lifelong learning and community activity
  • involve people who are less likely to take part
  • strengthen community's capacity to change things that matter
  • identify gaps in community learning provision
  • develop projects in response to needs and to share local knowledge and research.

They involve a range of partners who are active in the area, these include:

The groups are fairly new,  but already the groups are putting into place action plans to make a difference.

In the North Isles

Train Shetland has agreed to pilot courses which would normally only be available in Lerwick.

Adult Learning, Creative Industries and Train Shetland are working on a course to develop and help people develop skills in teaching others.

In South Shetland

The South Sheltand Local Service Delivery Group had already Consultated with the community about a wide range of issues through the South Vision project   The community was keen to see a wider range of courses and, in particular, courses that support healthy living.  Adult Learning, Shetland College and NHS Shetland are working on this at the moment.
