Funding & Concessions

 Want to learn a new skill and attend an evening or day class but struggling to afford it? You may be eligible for financial help towards the cost of your course. 

If you or your family are in receipt of any of the benefits listed below most Shetland College courses are FREE and Adult Learning fees are reduced by 75%:

  • You are in receipt of Carer's Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Attendance Allowance, or Contributory Employment and Support Allowance.
  • Your family is in receipt of Working Tax Credit, Income Support, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Income based Job Seeker's Allowance or Income related Employment and Support Allowance.
  • The net income of your family is equivalent to, or lower than, the threshold for receiving income support.

Evidence of allowances or income must be provided.

Classes which involve literacy, numeracy and learning English for speakers of other languages are free up to SCQF level 4.

 Many classes are half price if:

  • You are under 18 or over 60 years of age

Proof of concession must be provided in order to receive this rate.
